At fanfest, I spoke with Gavin Frankle (CCP Remnant) about this whole concept as well as what the future for weapons in general could hold. I'm not going to discuss all that was said, but I would like to clear this one issue up.
When they say "Tech 3 customization", CCP is simply referring to the modular system that is used in T3 ships in eve, and not alluding to there being "Tech 3" weapons.
Eventually they hope to make weapons much more customizable, and they have several ways that they can do it, but there is and will likely remain a disparity in the concept of Tech-Levels between EVE and DUST.
Maybe it will be something we see in the future, such as in a T2 vehicle or whatnot, but for the most part the Tech level system does not translate well into a FPS game. There will not be T2 or T3 weapons, as far as I understood.
Well, I'll counter by saying that there almost certainly be tech 2 and tech 3 weapons in Dust. The meta levels all pretty well match Eve straight down the line. |

Meta levels are there to give a sense of linkage between the two games, but even devs have said it dosen't really have a place in dust. Tech 2 firearms would make no sense, and that's not just me talking.
OK, I guess if you mean Tech 2 to mean "better than Tech 1" ok. That isn't really how Tech 2 (or 3) really works out in Eve though, especially now.
I interpret Tech 2 to mean a piece of gear that requires lvl 5 skills in a base skill, then lvl 1 in a more specialized skill to be able to wield that gear. In Eve it's spaceships. Specific spaceships, not a class. So, basically, we have officer gear now, which is better than Tech 2 anyway. The big deal with Tech 2 in Eve, is the way Tech 2 items are created. It was just a different resource pool to draw from.
So, I guess I'm agreeing with you now, but am unclear as to what Tech 2 or even Tech 3 would mean in Dust other than meta 5, or modularity.
